Aspirin bolus

A painkiller for cattle in the form of a natural aspirin bolus

Our natural aspirin bolus Aspitop is a fast-acting cattle supplement designed to target pain, fever, and inflammation. It improves the comfort and health status of the cow. It can be used as a painkiller at calving, hoof trimming, in case of lameness and hoof problems, in case of mastitis or metritis, and as prevention in any case where the cow seems not fit or in pain.

Our aspirin bolus can be used for cows over 400 kg.

Propolis: from bees with love

Propolis has been known for a long time for (amongst others) its anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-oxidant, and anti-protozoal activity.

Zulhendri and colleagues described three ways in which propolis impacts the well-being of the host:

  • Keeping the body's antioxidant system healthy.
  • Modulation of pro-inflammatory responses.
  • Boosting the body's natural defense system.

Propolis: health benefits

So, how does propolis act against bacteria? Amuhayawi summed up 7 methods:

  • Reducing the mobility of bacteria by affecting the cell membrane permeability.
  • Inhibiting the production of the biofilm by causing damage to the cell membrane.
  • Blocking the creation of new nucleic acids, which are the building blocks of genetic material in cells, by flavonoids.
  • Reducing bacterial resistance.
  • Preventing the formation of proteins.
  • Disrupting the normal functioning of the cytoplasmic membrane of the cells, affecting the cells’ overall health and functionality.
  • Affecting the bacteria’s energy metabolism.

Easing pain in cows with a tree leaf

White willow (or Salix alba) is a plant with silvery, oblong leaves mostly growing in the Northern hemisphere that belongs to the family of the Salicaceae (which includes around 1 220 species). Willows are a remarkably diverse group of plants ranging from small bushes to gigantic trees. This diversity provides a chemical plethora of 322 secondary metabolites (which are identified up until August 2024), such as flavonoids (95) and organic acids (28). It is needless to say that this chemical composition offers big pharmacological opportunities (but I said it anyway).

But how does this chemical compositin reduce pain in cattle? Read it in our blog, by clicking here.

Why use a bolus?

  1. Easy in use
  2. Easy storage and transportation
  3. No need to give daily supplements
  4. No need to calculate supplementary feed
  5. Each cow gets the right dose
  6. No spilling

You can combine Aspitop with other boluses!

Aspitop can be used together with other boluses, most notably with Mammitop Clinic. Ask our advice for all the possibilities.

Composition

Aspitop bolus combines 3 different ways of action thanks to 3 different active ingredients that work in synergy and reinforce each other.

Salix Alba

The main components of Salix alba (Willow tree) areSalix alba salicylates: derivates of salicylic acid, and precursors of aspirin. In addition to salicylic acid derivates, Salix alba also contains high levels of polyphenols which are transformed into salicylic acid through the metabolism of the animal. Salicylic acid is a strong painkiller (analgesic), reduces fever (antipyretic), and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Citrus

The citrus extracts in Aspitop are a source of strong antioxidants with ascorbic acid, bioflavonoids, and polyphenols as the main components. These citrus extracts support the immune system, reduce stress, protect the liver and act as anti-inflammatory agents

Propolis

Propolis is a natural ingredient produced by honey bees.Propolis It contains high levels of polyphenols and flavonoids that have a strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.

Vitamin C
